    Ansible Government Solutions, LLC (Ansible) is currently seeking two (2) full-time Operating Room Nurses to support operations at the Wilkes-Barre VA Medical Center located at 1111 East End Blvd, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18711. The Operating Room Nurses will have knowledge in and be responsible for providing nursing care to surgical patients. This care includes the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative periods, along with expected behavior patterns and technical activities performed during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Compensation includes a competitive hourly wage and extensive benefits. Shift scheduling is day shift (0700-1530 or 0800-1630) with no call.

    Responsibilities

    Perioperative nursing practice is flexible and diverse and includes a variety of nursing roles that incorporate both behavioral and technical components of professional nursing. The scope of practice for each individual perioperative nurse may include, but is not limited to, roles as Scrub Person, Circulatory, Manager, and Educator.

     

    The role of the Circulator is vital to the provision of that care and includes but is not limited to:

    • Responsibility for nursing activities related to the care of the patient in the operating room.
    • Creation and maintenance of a safe and comfortable environment in which surgery can take place.
    • Direct and indirect care of the patient which involves:
      • Use of nursing judgment and decision making.
      • Knowledge of an ability to use the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care.
      • Faculty for effective communication and the ability to recognize and intervene in stress situations involving the patient and/or other team members.
      • Implementation of the principles of medical and surgical asepsis.
      • Current knowledge of the legal implications of surgery.
      • Ability to act in an efficient, rational manner in emergencies.
      • Ability to interact skillfully with and supervise others.
    • Supervision and teaching members of the surgical team.
    • Acting as the patients advocate in meeting his/her physical and psychological needs.

    The role of the Scrub Person is vital to the provision of that care. The Registered Nurse in the operating room acting in the capacity of either circulating or Scrub Person will have knowledge and understanding of:

    • Principles and procedures of asepsis.
    • Positioning the patient for surgery.
    • Sutures, needles, and instruments.
    • Wound healing, dressings, and drains.
    • Anesthesia.
    • Advances in technology.
    • Concepts basic to ambulatory surgery
    • Abdominal incisions and closures; laparotomy.
    • Gastrointestinal surgery.
    • Gallbladder, ducts, liver, pancreas, and spleen surgery.
    • Repair of hernias.
    • Gynecological surgery.
    • Genitourinary surgery.
    • Thyroid and parathyroid surgery.
    • Breast surgery.
    • Ophthalmic surgery.
    • Otological surgery.
    • Rhinological and sinus surgery.
    • Laryngological and head and neck surgery.
    • Orthopedic surgery.
    • Neurosurgery.
    • Reconstructive plastic surgery.
    • Thoracic surgery.
    • Vascular surgery. 

    Qualifications

    • U.S. Citizen
    • Current, active, valid, and unrestricted RN license in at least one U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Commonwealth, territory, or jurisdiction
    • Graduation from an accredited (ACEN or CCNE) Nursing program at the Associates, Bachelors, or Masters level
    • Minimum one (1) year of recent RN experience including Operating Room Nurse experience within the last three (3) years
    • American Heart Association BLS certification
    • American Heart Association ACLS experience
